I work in schools and homes where I support teachers and caregivers to make desired changes. The initial point of contact is typically a phone call where I get basic information regarding needs. Depending on where services are needed, I schedule an initial observation where I observe the child in his or her daily interactions with the people around him or her to determine strengths and areas of difficulty. After the first observation, I schedule an interview with caregivers and teachers to get a better sense of the dynamics at play between the people in the child's world because if change is desired, everyone involved in the dynamic will have to make changes. After the interview I do additional observations to make sure I have enough information to design a comprehensive plan for change. This plan is discussed with caregivers and teachers to make sure there is a fit between the new strategies and how the family and the school system operate. The plan is then put in place and I support caregivers and teachers in how to do the new strategies and how to get beyond some blocks in beliefs that may come up. Once the caregivers and teachers are comfortable with the new strategies and there have been desired changes, I end consultation services and are then available as needed.
